Drama

Royal Shakespeare Company Dream Team

In Drama we work as an ‘ensemble’.DramaMasks[1]

In Drama we work on our feet.

In Drama everyone has equal value.

In Drama we respect each other.

In Drama we are actors and we can, without criticism, pretend to be anything!

How does Drama enrich our Speaking and Listening provision?

Children work towards the following objectives within drama sessions.

  1. Give well-structured descriptions, explanations and narratives for different purposes, including for expressing feelings
  2. Maintain attention and participate actively in collaborative conversations, staying on topic and initiating and responding to comments
  3. Use spoken language to develop understanding through speculating, hypothesising, imagining and exploring ideas
  4. Participate in discussions, presentations, performances, role play, improvisations and debates
  5. Consider and evaluate different viewpoints, attending to and building on the contributions of others.

Drama games – In Drama we begin by developing our awareness of ourselves and others through playing different drama games.

Awareness of space – Each session we develop our awareness of our stage or performance space.

Confidence circle – In Drama we always develop our confidence through projecting our voices in the confidence circle.

Freeze frames – In Drama we create a wide range of imaginative freeze frames.

Rehearsal time – In Drama we have to work together to bring scenes to life.

Perform – In Drama we develop our confidence through all of the opportunities we have to perform to our class.

Reflection – In Drama we reflect on our own and others performance. We celebrate the effective parts of the performances and consider ways the performance could be improved further.

Drama develops The 4 Cs

  • confidence
  • concentration
  • communication
  • coordination

Drama encourages confident and fluent speaking. Drama boosts reading and writing as children step into the story and bring characters to life. Drama enhances physical skills including coordination, agility and poise. Drama inspires a colourful imagination. Drama helps children make friends easily and interact well with their peers and adults.
