At St Stephen’s CE Primary School, we are committed to providing a rich and varied enrichment offer that supports our vision enabling every child to let their light shine. Our Core Enrichment Entitlement ensures that all children have access to a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom, designed to develop their skills, interests, and personal growth.
Our enrichment programme covers five key areas:
- Civic Engagement: The Department for Education (DfE) defines civic engagement as activities that connect young people to democratic life, their local neighbourhoods and society. It aims to build social responsibility, communication skills, and a sense of community belonging. Opportunities for children to participate in local community events such as the Winter Wonderland, partnering with neighbouring charities and representing the school at Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.
- Arts and Culture: Including live performances, music lessons, creative clubs, and participation in events like World Book Day and school productions. A cornerstone of our arts and cultural provision is our proud participation in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Associate Schools Programme for more than 17 years. This prestigious partnership reflects our deep commitment to the transformative power of the arts, enabling children to engage with world-class theatre experiences and truly let their talents shine.
- Nature, Outdoors and Adventure: Activities such as Forest School, eco projects, tree planting, and residential visits to Robinwood Activity Centre, Alston.
- Sport and Physical Activity: A broad offer including lunchtime clubs, interschool and intraschool competitions, bikeability training and physical activity sessions led by Education Enterprise SSP.
- Developing Wider Life Skills: From enterprise projects and emergency first aid training to careers week and leadership opportunities like Leadership Team, Worship Committee, Playground Sport Leaders and other leadership roles.
This entitlement is a living document that is regularly reviewed and updated by school leaders to respond to emerging needs and new opportunities. We believe, ‘there is something potentially wonderful in everyone’, that these experiences we offer are essential in helping our children to use their God-given gifts, to be the best that they can be, so that they can let their light shine to the world.
